DeKalb County Student Assignment Project (SAP) · 2025–2026

They want to close
30 schools.
We say no.

DeKalb County School District has proposed closing or restructuring 30 neighborhood schools as part of its Student Assignment Project (SAP) — one of the largest school closure proposals in the county's history. The final board vote is expected in Fall 2026. We're parents and community members fighting back — with facts, not just feelings.

What's At Stake

This isn't just about buildings.
It's about communities.

DCSD has 110,000 seats and roughly 92,000 students — about 20,000 empty. The district wants to close schools to cut costs. We understand the challenge. What we're fighting is a process built on questionable data, rushed timelines, and decisions that hit our highest-performing schools hardest.

📚

Student Displacement

Thousands of students — including those at nationally recognized schools like Vanderlyn (#39 in Georgia) and Ashford Park — face longer commutes and unfamiliar environments. No evidence has been presented that consolidation improves academic outcomes.

Community Anchors Lost

Neighborhood schools are community anchors. When a school closes, the walkability, the community identity, and decades of relationships disappear permanently — often hitting working families and lower-income communities hardest.

Flawed Data & Process

Even board member Whitney McGinniss has said the data "has not been accurate and should be reassessed." HPM Consulting, the firm driving the process, has a mixed national track record. The financial case for closures has not been fully disclosed.
